Writers’ Guidelines
|
|
|
The following guidelines are intended to make life a bit easier for receiving hundreds of stories. Please adhere to them to the best of your ability.
If you are not a computer user (how did you get to this page?!), there’s the good old-fashioned typewriter or pen-and-paper (print, please) and the US Postal Service. Works for me!
Oh … and your submissions will be edited for grammar and spelling if used. While a well-written story is appreciated, don’t get stressed over it. I would rather have you “speak” from your heart and experiences than stress over grammatical correctness and spelling.

Submissions should be:
- Between two-to-five pages long (8.5” x 11” pages).
- Margins no wider than 1” all four sides.
- Font = Times New Roman, or similar.
- Font size between 11 and 13 point.
- Font color = dark (black, blue, purple, green).
- Line spacing = single-spaced or 1.5-line spaced.
- Paragraphs separated by one blank line.
Please: no special formatting other than outline bullets (like this list of writers’ guidelines) or numbers. Do not indent paragraphs or use columns, tables, etc.

Electronic files:
- Put your file name and page numbers (auto-numbering is fine) in the footer (or at the bottom) of each page. Even better is if you use the page numbering “Page x of y”.
- Save electronic files as .txt or .rtf files; not .doc. (Microsoft Word can “save as” .rtf if you select it.)
- Name your files
- LFTT story - lastname_firstinitial or
- LFTT story – troop####
(where “####” is your troop number or “troop####” is your group name).
- In the “file properties” feature (if you have one – Word does!) please put full contact information in the “summary” window (name, phone #, e-mail address, snail mail address).
Note: Your files will be kept private; they come to only one person – Sylvia Henderson – and will not be shared in their original form.

- Just fold the paper in thirds and use a #10 envelope. You don’t have to use special mailers or keep the sheets of paper unfolded.

Thank you for your contribution.
You will know, within 4-to-6 weeks of your submission (based on e-mail in-box date or USPS postmark), if you will be in the first book. (Yes…I expect there will be more than one.) I want a nice mixture of stories (experiences, ages, leadership lessons). The complete picture, from multiple stories, is what will determine which ones are used. No other judgment (other than appropriateness) will be made.
